Well…I am excited to announce that I had my first ever guest blog post published over at Budgeting In The Fun Stuff. The title of the blog post was How Being A Credit Card Delinquent Saved Me Thousands of Dollars!…and if you’re interested, please feel free to check it out
I enjoyed writing the guest post and I am definitely up for doing more, so if you wanna guest post from little old me, feel free to let me know!
I also received my first reader Q & A yesterday as well, which I am going to answer in this post. I have already emailed my response to the reader and she said it was cool to post it here which was nice of her. I have, for obvious reasons left out her last name and her email address since I respect her privacy and her concerns.
So…without further adieu, here is Sarah’s question and my response:
Hello Lyle. I am enjoying your blog on simplicity very much and was wondering if you wouldn’t mind answering a question, which is, how can I wake up every morning with a smile on my face instead of a frown?
Thanks Lyle and I look forward to hearing back from you.
Hey Sarah and thanks for the email question and for being my first reader Q & A post
“…how can I wake up every morning with a smile on my face instead of a frown?” – Yikes!! I was hoping for an easy question my first time around!!
Like you are probably already aware, there’s never an easy, follow the numbers style answer to important life questions like this one, but I’ll do my best.
For me, waking up each morning with a smile on my face is as simple as being true to yourself and living life on your own terms.
OK. So now you are probably thinking “HUH!? What does that mean?!”
Well, I’ll tell ya
It means that to truly be happy, your everyday life needs to be directed by you and you alone. This refers to living life on your terms regardless of what others think of you or what you think others EXPECT of you.
Now…how you define living life on your own terms is THE question you need to reflect on via some quiet ME time.
The beauty of these types of meaningful questions is that everyone has a unique response.
For some, it’s following a life dream in lieu of a commercially conditioned and comfortable lifestyle.
For others, it’s living in a tiny house and leaving a small ecological footprint behind for the greater good.
And for some, it’s simply seeking out a way to make a living online so that they can stay home and be there for their children and the people they love.
You might fall into one of these categories, or you might have a completely different life goal. But whatever your situation, to wake up smiling every morning, you need to be fully involved in the creation of how you want to live your life.
It’s not easy. There are bumps, barriers and maybe even some bruising – metaphorically speaking – at the beginning, but this is to be expected. To fully be in complete control of your own life, you will most likely be going against the grain of what others think you should be doing. Even your friends and family may not understand, appreciate or accept why you have chosen the road less traveled…and that’s ok! They don’t need to give you permission to do what you need to do, your being happy should be enough for them…hopefully.
If you can handle that…if you can silence the nay-sayers and crowd pleasers in your own head…if you can find your true spirit, the one that was most likely there as a little girl, then I believe you can begin to wake up each morning with a smile on your face.
I hope this answers your question.
Take care Sarah and all the best.
